A little background on the village

The country village of Mobberley is situated in Cheshire about 10 miles south of Manchester and only a mile outside the market town of Knutsford and the picturesque Tatton Park estate.

The village has less than three thousand inhabitants and is a quintessential rural parish. It falls within George Osborne’s Tatton constituency which also includes other prosperous towns such as Wilmslow and Alderley Edge, whilst Manchester Airport is only a couple of miles away to the north.

The village is what’s known as a dormitory village as residents are known to make daily commutes to nearby towns and cities for work, Manchester being one.

A flourishing history

Mobberley is one of England’s oldest parishes. It has a flourishing history and was first mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 as “Motburlege”. With this history in mind, let’s take a look at times gone by in the form of historic photographs, from the pre-war era right up to the 1960s and more recent times:

The Old Hall

Mobberley Old Hall is a Grade II Jacobean building built in 1612. Surrounding the hall you’ll find extensive lawns and woodland, all enclosed by a traditional stone wall which dates back to the 17th century.
